Working Towards a Sustainable Forest Future

At Branch 95 we recognise that the Australian community has high expectations with regard to the environmental performance of companies such as ours.

We know that to continue to be a successful business we must constantly increase our understanding of environmental issues and take action to manage these issues.

Our environmental vision is to manage our business in a way which promotes sustainable forest management, increases the efficient use of resources and energy and reduces negative impacts on the environment.

Harvesting Practices

Strict Government guidelines apply to timber harvesting on both crown land and private property and must be adhered to.

Our timber supply comes from Private property and managed state forests in Far North Queensland.

We are committed to working with the State Forest Agencies, Forest Owners, Regulators, Policy-Makers and other Key Stakeholders to achieve a sustainably managed resource base.

Subviculture Practices

Our company harvests timber throughout Queensland and conducts its logging operations in accordance with strict Queensland Forestry guidelines; focusing on resource sustainability. Hardwood forests in Australia have the unique characteristic of regenerating without replanting.

Hardwoods are sourced from forests that have achieved certification from Australian Forestry Standards, using harvesting methods that exceed world’s best practices. These practices ensure the protection of areas of significant environmental concern. Trees that assist with combating erosion and salinity problems, trees that are part of natural gullies that form watercourses during wet seasons and habitat trees that encourage wildlife activity are all protected within the Australian Forestry Standard.

All resources obtained from private landholders are subject to the same stringent guidelines that apply to State Forests. Private land owners and saw millers are required to meet the code of practice from the Vegetation Management Act. This requires protection of trees and land in watercourses, recognised habitat areas and the overall restoration of the forest to its previous condition.

The Program endorses the above operations for Endorsement of Forest Certification. This body endorses country’s National Standards of Forestry Management Practices. This ensures the international community that a country achieves, maintains and conducts the harvesting of timber in line with international standards. The harvesting of all hardwood supplied to Dale & Meyers Operations meets or exceeds all current standards and regulations.

Branch 95 recognises that the community rightly has high expectations with regard to the environmental performance of companies such as ours. We know that in order to continue our success we must constantly increase our understanding of the environmental impacts of our methods and take action to manage these issues.

We are committed to working with State Forestry Agencies, Regulators, Policy Makers, private landowners and other key stakeholders to achieve a sustainably managed resource base.
